How To Choose A Domain Name

You may have spent a considerable amount of time brainstorming and deciding on a niche. You may have selected a web host and may have already created your product. The internet is here to stay and even if you are brand new to the industry you could be working from home in three hundred and sixty five days time if you do everything right. You probably at the stage where you need to choose your domain name. This is a really crucial step in your business. Get this wrong and you could be leaving thousands of dollars on the table. If one were to imagine if say for example Google were to have a different domain name maybe longer or with hyphens in their domain name would their success still be the same?

A lot of people will argue in favour of including your keywords in the domain name. I would comment and say that this is a good strategy to follow as I know of many web site owners who have chosen keywords in their domain name that are not related to the niche and have found themselves getting traffic from these unrelated keywords. The reason for this is that the search engines use the anchor text in the links to your web site as part of their algorithm to determine your rankings.

Now let us look at some examples of good domain names that you can choose. If you were running a second hand car dealer you could name your domain name qualityusedcars.com. I would suggest that you register the .net and .biz versions too as a competitor could register these and get traffic and be mistaken for you.

I have bought a lot of domain names and know how important it is to choose a good domain name. You definitely do not want to rush this important step. Take some time and choose a catchy domain name that is not too long that will catch people's attention. The older the domain name is the more trust the search engines like Google allocate to it. So for example a domain name that is five years old will have a big advantage over a domain name that is only one year old and rank much better in the search engines. So if you could find a suitable expired domain name that is five years old that would be ideal.
